The Calvary Story
Est. 1959

It was in 1959 when Reverend Charles Mitchell began to develop a burden for this small river town situated along the banks of the Mississippi River. Just up the river from the boyhood home of famed writer Mark Twain, the historic and quaint town of Quincy, IL. More famous for presedential debates than Sunday sermons, but still Mitchell couldn't shake it. So in the Spring and into the Summer of that year the Mitchell family made their way to Quincy.

Since the 1920's there had been an effort to establish a "Pentecostal" church, though little success was had. Over the coming years Pastor Mitchell labored to build a church in the City of Quincy, quiet literally with his own hands. From setting up tents for meetings, to buying a lot on the corner of 16th & Locust streets, digging a basement by hand, laying the foundation & finally building the place Calvary Tabernacle would call home for the next 50 years.

In recent years Calvary Tabernacle has made a strategic decision to relocate in an effort to better position themselves to more be visiable and influential in Quincy. By entering into a capital stewardship campaign, purchasing and selling property, the vision of our founding pastor, and those who have followed has remained the same, establish and maintain a spirit filled church, and see Gods will be done in Quincy as it is in heaven.

At Calvary our purpose is clear, cultivate a culture where you can LOVE God, GROW in faith, SERVE others, and GO make a difference.

LOVE | GROW | SERVE | GO
